Tulum is IN THE JUNGLE! This makes it the beautiful, mystical place that it is. But that means there's also a variety of bugs you may encounter. We will have a significant amount of Copal at the event, which should keep the mosquitos away, but recommend buying bug spray when you get into town :)
Taxis are safe and plentiful in Tulum. Just make sure you check the price before you get in. The taxis here do not use meters and the drivers will try to earn a bit extra when they see a tourist so if you think the price is a bit much, just say no thank you and check with the next one. Taxis charge a bit more at night time. Don't hesitate to ask your hotel/airbnb host typically prices to the destinations you're traveling to.
Biodegradable products are required to enter into centoes or on boat tours. They kindly ask you to not enter cenotes or the ocean if your products are not biodegradable in order to save the beautiful marine life.
In Tulum you can pay with Pesos or Dollars – A lot of places also accept credit cards but you will need cash for i.e. taxis. If you wish to withdraw money, we recommend using the ATMs in town as their fees are a lot less than the ATMs on the beach area. HSBC and CI Banco in downtown Tulum are the best. If you bring USD, we recommend changing them to pesos in the “casa de cambio” in downtown Tulum.
Cell phone reception is almost non-existent along the hotel strip in Tulum, but almost all hotels and restaurants offer WiFi.
