In May 2023, Anthony went on a boys' trip to visit two Utah State friends living in Washington, DC. After a week of golfing and some harmless chaos, the group decided to attend “Porchfest,” a DC tradition where local bands play sets on the front stoops of rowhouses across the neighborhood of Adams Morgan. Those two friends Anthony was visiting also happened to be close friends of Sophia, who was living in Arlington, Virginia, a short 15-minute drive from DC. Sophia and her friends met up with the group, affectionately known to all the DC folks as the “Utah Boys.” After casually meeting at the concert earlier that day, Sophia and Anthony walked into a bar at the same time, the perfect moment for Anthony to make his move. They spent the rest of the night laughing, chatting, and singing karaoke, and both left wondering if anything would come of it. Living on opposite sides of the country would deter most people, but not Anthony. A few days later, Sophia received an Instagram DM from him, and they haven’t gone a single day without talking since. A summer of texting and phone calls led to Anthony’s proposition to visit Utah, and after recognizing her connection with Anthony seemed to be something special, Sophia obliged. Fast-forward to July 2023. After visiting a friend in Denver for her birthday, Sophia booked a hotel in Utah and flew out to meet Anthony. The flight was nerve-wracking. All she kept thinking about was whether the airport pickup would be awkward and, if it was, how the next few days were going to go. Once he picked her up, Sophia knew she would be just fine. It felt like they had known each other for years. The week together consisted of getting horrendously sunburnt on a hike in Alta, Topgolf with a few of Anthony’s friends, brunch at High West Distillery, and seeing Sophia’s favorite band, Caamp, at Deer Valley. After three days, the two decided they were dating, a decision that came easily to both of them. After a few more days in St. George, Anthony said, “I love you” (Sophia said it back, too), and it became clear, despite the 2,000 miles between them, that this relationship was worth the distance. After a year or so of dating, Sophia decided to move to Salt Lake City and now calls Utah home. Anthony proposed to Sophia in August 2024 after a trip to Cody, Wyoming, which she now has deemed her favorite place on Earth. Sophia and Anthony are ecstatic to celebrate their greatest adventure yet, getting married, on August 2nd, 2025 in Park City, Utah, with their closest friends and family. We hope you can join us!
