It all started at our church’s young adults group. Kamila had noticed Anthony a few times — he didn’t seem to know many people, but he kept showing up week after week. There was something about that consistency and quietness that stood out to her. She usually said hi to anyone who was new or alone, but for some reason, Anthony made her a little nervous. Anthony, on the other hand, first noticed Kamila one random Tuesday in August. Nothing particularly special about the day — at least, not at first. They ended up in the same small group, and though they didn’t really talk he got a hint of her personality, something about her stuck in his mind. Still, he wasn’t looking for a relationship. He was planning to move to Italy, after all. But as he would later realize, God had other plans. Months went by, and when Kamila finally approached him one evening — after seeing him chatting with a friend of hers — she introduced herself and mentioned she remembered him from a past group. Anthony, in a less-than-smooth moment, replied that he didn’t remember her at all. Kamila laughed it off and teased him about his bad memory, never imagining that he was already thinking about asking her out — and even telling his family about her. By the next week, everything changed. Anthony prayed in his car before walking into church that night, asking God to make it clear if Kamila was the person he was meant to pursue. When he walked in, he practically ran right into her. Kamila remembers that moment too — she may or may not have picked that row of seats specifically because he was sitting there. At the end of the night, Anthony stopped her before she could leave. He told her that he hadn’t been completely honest the week before — he did remember her. In fact, he had already told his mom and sisters how beautiful he thought she was. He went on to say how much he admired her heart for Jesus and that he wanted to get to know her more. Kamila was stunned. No one had ever been so direct or sincere with her before. She could feel her face turning red as he spoke, completely speechless — something out of a movie. What captured her heart most wasn’t just his words about her beauty, but when he said, “I love when you talk.” He saw her for who she truly was and valued her heart above all else. Their story wasn’t perfectly smooth from there but it was deeply rooted in grace, patience, and faith. Anthony pursued Kamila in a way that reflected the love of Jesus: steady, intentional, and full of purpose. The more he got to know her, the more he loved her. The same was true for her. Looking back, both can clearly see God’s hand in every detail — from that first nervous hello to the diner date that followed. What started as two people quietly noticing each other across a church room turned into a love story written by Jesus Himself — one far greater than either of them could have ever imagined.
