The app was "Coffee Meets Bagel". Our first date was at Jo's Coffee on South Congress. Anthony ordered a Topo Chico. Jodi ordered a beer... then Anthony changed his order to a beer. We went for a stroll around South Congress and listened to some music at Guero's. We talked about music festivals and living through snowstorms. After that we saw each other every weekend with dates at The Whitehorse, Blue Owl, and paddle boarding together on Lake Austin.
Paddle boarding is our favorite summertime activity – especially on the hot summer days in Austin. Which made it the perfect proposal spot. Anthony hid the ring in the beer cooler, and we went out paddle boarding for the day on the water with Maria & Diego (Anthony's sister & brother-in-law). We paddled out and down the Barton Springs section. Earlier in the day, Anthony made up a story that a friend was going to meet them out there at some point. So, after an hour or so of paddling, Anthony said they had to all paddle back towards the dock (where Jacklyn and Scarlett, Jodi’s sister & niece, were secretly waiting) to meet up with the friend. Jodi – easy-going, Jodi – wasn’t so easy going that day. “Ugh, why can’t he just come meet us out here… why do we have to go all the way back to the dock to pick him up… what are we? A school bus?… Choo choo!” 🙄 Finally, we paddle back towards the dock and find a nice, calm spot to sit in the water and “wait for the friend”. At this point, Anthony hopped on Jodi’s paddle board and asked her to stand up... to which she responded “Why? I’m comfortable here”. Well, eventually she stood up and Anthony got down on a knee. The paddle board wobbled a little bit, but no one (and nothing – *whew*) fell in the water. …And she said YES!
