Flight
The closest major city to fly into is Medellín. From there, it’s about a 35–45 minute drive through the mountains to Retiro, the town nearest our wedding venue. We don’t recommend flying into any other airports or major cities, as they are much farther from the venue. Some trusted airlines you could fly with are Avianca, United Airlines, and American Airlines
Hotel
We’re excited to recommend this hotel for your stay! It’s just 8 minutes from the airport and 23 minutes from our wedding venue, making it super convenient. Our wedding planner recommends this hotel for its beautiful rooms, restaurants, and pool. Plus, on the wedding day, buses will pick up guests right from the hotel to take everyone to the venue—so you can relax and enjoy the day! We recommend booking your stay at this hotel at least 2 months out!
Travel Note
We’ll be providing transportation to the wedding venue, departing from Hotel Lagoon. The buses will leave promptly at 3:15 PM so everyone can arrive in time for our 4 PM ceremony. We have a fun little surprise planned for the ride—get ready to kick off the celebration in style! The buses will also be available to bring everyone back from the venue to Hotel Lagoon. They will depart the venue at 12:20 AM, right after our celebration ends at midnight, so you can enjoy the evening worry-free!
House Or Rental
We also recommend considering an Airbnb or rental in the area! If you choose this option, we suggest staying in Retiro (closest to the venue), Rionegro (closest to the airport), or Medellín (closest to major attractions and the nearest major city) If you do book a stay in Medellín we would recommend the following areas throughout the city: - El Poblado (Medellín) Very popular with tourists and visitors Lots of restaurants, cafes, nightlife, and conveniences About a 30–35 min drive from El Retiro Great choice if you want both comfort and Medellín city experiences - Envigado (just south of El Poblado) Slightly quieter and more local than El Poblado, but still safe with good amenities Roughly 35–40 min drive to Hacienda Fizebad A good balance between city access and residential feel
Rental Car
If you’re planning to explore the surrounding areas, renting a car can be a great option! Reliable rental services at José María Córdova International Airport include Enterprise, Localiza, and Alamo, with standard rentals typically ranging from $30–$40 per day. A valid United States driver’s license is all you need to drive in Colombia. Just keep in mind that driving here can be a bit different—roads are often busy with smaller cars and mopeds zipping around—so stay alert and enjoy the adventure!
Travel Note
Taxis and Ubers are also very common and convenient in the area! You can easily use them to get around the city, explore local sights, or travel between neighborhoods. Uber and other ride‑hailing apps are widely used and generally safe, though in some areas taxis may be easier to hail from the street. Most drivers are familiar with tourist areas, and fares are usually reasonable. It’s a great option if you don’t want to worry about driving or parking while exploring Medellín and the beautiful surrounding countryside.
