A: 3 years ago Cynthia moved to San Diego for a travel nurse contract on my unit. Although we were just coworkers and didn’t know much about each other; before leaving SD she made sure to plant a little seed in my head...“Don’t move back to Monterey quite yet”. A quick 9 months later I was reading work emails and noticed Cynthia was back. Just seeing her name made my stomach drop and my smile widen. C: It was my 1st week back at UCSD. I was at a loss of words when he entered my room. I had just prepped my patient’s meds, but was so mesmorized by his presence I threw them straight in the trash, trying to stay calm and pretend to look busy. A: I made some good eye contact and I noticed she fumbled around a bit and 30 mins later I was still in her room laughing and talking. After that day I made any excuse to help her. I would go to work hoping she was scheduled and be thrilled when she came rushing through the door to clock in. Shortly thereafter Mallorie, a mutual friend/coworker, acted as matchmaker. C: One day while traveling with Mallorie she asked me what I wanted in a future partner. I proceeded to list the many qualities of what I envisioned my husband to be like. She only answered with one short sentence. “You know you just described Anthony from work”. A: I would ask Mallorie questions about Cynthia and everything she said was exactly what I wanted in a woman. Quickly realizing our goals, values, and faith all aligned, I was sold. It took me a few weeks to build up the courage to ask her to hang out. We planned to go on a bike ride, unfortunately the same day of her running accident. C: I spent most of the next month in the hospital, the same hospital we worked at. Due to covid I wasn’t allowed any visitors, however Anthony worked 23 days in a row and would sneak into my room during his lunch hour to keep me company. His attentiveness and presence were so comforting and spoke volumes about the man he is. Two years later he is still by my side!
