Looks like it will be neither too hot nor rainy for the weekend! Woohoo! But it will be EXTREMELY windy in Hood River (did you know it's the windsurfing capital of the U.S.?), especially at the wedding venue atop the edge of the gorge. And the temperature will drop as the night goes on. So maybe bring a light jacket?
Welcome Gathering/Dinner: Super casual (there will be lawn games!). Jeans/shorts/jorts, or come more festive. Whatever floats your boat. Wedding: Cocktail attire. Please note: you'll be walking on grass and up and down stones steps, and this is an injury-free wedding. So probably best to wear comfortable shoes (plus, we need you to be ready to dance ALL NIGHT, or at least until the venue kicks us out at 10pm). Farewell Brunch: Again, super casual. Sunglasses for your hangover are recommended.
Yes, probably! Or at least find a friend with whom you can share a rental. There are NO ride share options (Uber, Lyft) in Hood River. Yes, we know this is shocking in 2022! We have also been forewarned that while taxi services do exist, they are extremely limited and unreliable, especially during a busy holiday weekend. While we will be providing shuttle service to and from the wedding venue on Sunday from centralized locations in Hood River, you will need a car to get to the welcome gathering, the shuttle pick-up location, and to the farewell brunch (depending on where you are staying). Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about this!
We love kids! We even have one. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate them at the wedding on July 3rd.* But we'd be happy to have them join us for the welcome gathering/dinner on July 2nd and at the farewell brunch on July 4th. Please just let Caryn or Anthony know in advance so that we can be sure to plan accordingly. For childcare during the weekend, we recommend visiting care.com or other similar sites. We can also hook you up with other guests who are bringing children if you'd like to do a sitter share--just let us know! *The wedding venue is atop a gorge and is just not super safe for kiddos. However, if you have a baby under one year old who isn't quite mobile and is able to hitch a ride in a carrier, we'd be happy to have them attend (just let us know ahead of time!).
You can do whatever you like! But we would recommend setting up camp in Hood River or nearby, and taking a daytrip or two into Portland if you like, since it's only about an hour away. That way, you'll be super convenient to all the wedding weekend festivities.
