Since it's hard to keep up with the proceedings we thought having a summary of the rituals would help so that the only confused faces are those of the bride and groom. 😄

Things To Do

Welcome! Enjoy the nadhaswaram (wind instrument) and melam as you wait for proceedings to begin.

Vanakkam

For this ritual, as per our interpretation, the bride's father reiterates to the groom the importance of marriage. The groom's nerves are hence settled and he agrees to get married.

Pardesi Kolam

One of the main events where Anshuli selects Anirudh as the man she wants to marry. And to add a bit of spice, the bride & groom sit on their uncles' shoulders as they compete to be the first to garland the other.

Maalai Maatral

Anshuli and Anirudh sit on the swing (oonjal) and are rocked gently. The rocking motion symbolizes life's ups and downs that they must weather together. Family members sing auspicious songs.

Oonjal

Anshuli sits on her father's lap as he performs a ritual to symbolize her joining a new family.

Kanyadhanam

Anirudh ties the thali for Anshuli. Ananyaa (Ani's sister) will tie the final knot, to cement their bond. As the music reaches a crescendo, please shower the couple with your blessings - in the form of coloured rice. They are married (again)!

Mangalaya Dharanam

Seven steps to commit to:

- leading a life together forever
- staying loyal and truthful

Saptapadi

Post the ceremony, Anshuli will go to Anirudh's home where the family will perform an aarti to welcome Anshuli and Anirudh to the home as a married couple.
