SETTING THE STAGE

Leah – I had been working as an ER nurse at St. Mary’s for about a year and felt like it was time for a new adventure—specifically, a move to Texas. I prayed about it often and made several attempts to go, but each time, the door seemed to shut. Anosh – At 17, I left India to pursue my dream of becoming a physician. I spent two years studying in the Caribbean and completed my clinical rotations in Chicago, where I fell in love with the city and hoped to stay. But God had other plans—I matched into an ER residency in a small Michigan town I’d never heard of. So, in June 2023, I packed up and made the move. Leah – In July, the new ER residents' photos went up, and I joined a group of coworkers checking them out. One last name caught my eye—it matched mine. I found it ironic and funny, and he stood out to me.

EARLY BEGINNINGS

Anosh – One day at work, I overheard Leah talking to a coworker about her faith in Jesus. I joined the conversation, and we connected instantly over our shared love for Christ. Leah – That moment was so refreshing. It was rare to meet someone in the workplace who shared my convictions and passion for God. Anosh – Over the next few months, we worked side by side as colleagues, especially in the trauma bay—our favorite place in the ER. Things stayed strictly platonic. Leah – At the start of the new year, I felt it was time to seriously pursue my move to Texas. I put in my notice with plans to leave in April 2024, start a local nursing contract, and head south by fall. On my final night shift, I was saying goodbye to everyone when Anosh walked in for his morning shift. Anosh – That happened to be my first day back in the ER after a month-long ICU rotation. Leah – We said our goodbyes, wished each other well, and that was that—or so I thought. Except for the ER work gala that was coming up a month later. Leah – I started my new job and a month went by. The day before the gala, we still hadn’t communicated outside of work, but I had this sudden gut feeling to text him and ask if he was going. So I did. Anosh – I wasn’t sure about attending, but when Leah texted, I decided to go—one last chance to connect before she left for Texas.

THE DANCE

Leah – He walked in fashionably late (which I now know as normal) and looked incredibly sharp in a suit—it was the first time I’d seen him outside of scrubs. Anosh – When she walked over, my first thought was, “Wow, she looks so beautiful and graceful.” Leah - Since neither of us were interested in dancing, we grabbed a quiet table and ended up talking for hours. Throughout the night, friends kept coming up and saying, “You two should totally be together!” We just laughed—we genuinely thought we were just coworkers and friends. Anosh – At one point, someone pulled me aside and asked why we weren’t dating. I explained that while we shared the same values, she was moving away and I had a demanding residency—it just didn’t seem possible with our circumstances. Leah – A little later, that same person and Anosh came up to me and the coworker asked, “So, are you set on moving to Texas?” With Anosh standing next to me, my heart skipped a beat. I found myself saying, “I’m open—anything can happen.” They looked at Anosh with a smile, and that’s when I knew something was shifting. Anosh – Her answer made me think twice, though I still thought it was unlikely anything would happen. Leah – After the gala, Anosh offered to drive me to the after-party. When the car started and a Morgan Wallen song played, I turned to him and asked, “Wait, do you like country music?” He said yes—and I was intrigued. Anosh – That night, we sat around a bonfire and talked about life. I finally got the courage to ask if she’d like to go out before she left. Leah – I was already having such a great time, so of course I said yes. Suddenly, the idea of moving to Texas didn’t feel quite so set in stone.

FIRST DATE TO FOREVER

Anosh – Knowing she loved the outdoors, I planned our first date as a five-mile hike at a state park. We talked about Jesus, life, India, and of course, medicine. Leah – Everything just flowed so naturally. Then, Anosh surprised me by suggesting we end the date with a Bible study. It was something I’d always hoped for in a partner, and it filled me with peace and joy. Anosh – My parents had already been planning to come to the U.S. for the first time, which just so happen to be a month into Leah and I’s relationship. They met her, spent some time with her, and loved her. Leah – Anosh met my family too. When he made a sarcastic comment that my brother repeated moments later, I knew he fit right in—especially with my brothers, which meant a lot to me. Anosh & Leah – Over the past year, we've shared countless adventures, laughs, and moments of growth. Our story is full of “coincidences” that we know aren’t random at all—they are reminders of God’s perfect timing and plan. We’re so excited to step into our next chapter: marriage!
