It was two weeks before Thanksgiving, when my plans unexpectedly fell through. I was living in Kansas City, with no family nearby, and no back up plan. One of my best friends, Lily Nelson, insisted that I spend Thanksgiving with her family. Just a short time later, I found myself in the quaint mountain town of Tryon, North Carolina. Jack, who was living in Dallas, happened to be visiting his family, who also live in Tryon. On Thanksgiving morning, I walked with the Nelson family to the picturesque town church, where I first saw Jack. I remember thinking to myself as we walked home, "What are the odds that such an attractive guy my age would be in this tiny town AND at mass for Thanksgiving?" The next day, The Nelsons invited Jack's family over dinner. Our eyes locked and we chatted for the rest of the night...well actually I chatted with his mom for a good portion of the night. She couldn't speak highly enough of her son, and (I've been told) she mentioned to Jack that I just might be exactly the girl he was looking for. Later that evening, Jack contacted me, asking if I'd like to go on a date. I was only in town for one more day, and regrettably had to decline. "Besides" I thought, "It's not like we'd even be able to go on a 2nd date if this works out!" Jack and I continued to text every few weeks which eventually progressed into phone calls. After our first (5 hour long) phone call, I was absolutely smitten. Our daily conversations eventually led to our first date in February 2021. I was in Oklahoma City for a wedding, and Jack drove up to romance me over margaritas and tacos. As much as we loved the airline miles, we quickly realized that long distance was THE WORST. Jack proposed on the beach in Hilton Head, SC just a few weeks before I moved to Dallas, TX. Now the longest distance we travel is across the side-walk (yes, we did move into the same apartment complex) and we are counting the days until we get to be together forever!
