Korbel Winery
Established in 1882, Korbel Champagne Cellars boasts impressive architecture crawling with green vines — including a replica of the tower that long ago incarcerated the winery’s founder — and extensive gardens with hundreds of bulbs blooming each spring. Tour manicured shrubs and literally stop to smell the red, pink, and orange antique roses — there are 250 varieties of them. Luther Burbank Home & Gardens
More than an acre of gardens include many of Luther Burbank’s horticultural contributions. Special garden areas focus on medicinal herbs, cutting flowers, roses, wildlife habitats, and ornamental grasses. Many unusual varieties of plants and new horticultural introductions are represented. Most plants are labeled with both botanic and common names. Follow the story of Burbank’s career with our self-guided tour. The Gardens in downtown Santa Rosa are open to the public every day from 8 to dusk.
Bodega Bay Whale Watching
IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, THE BEST TIME TO SPOT GREY WHALES AND ORCAS IS DECEMBER THROUGH MAY. FOR HUMPBACKS, MAY THROUGH NOVEMBER. AND FOR BLUE WHALES, THE LARGEST ANIMAL ON EARTH, BETWEEN JULY AND OCTOBER. WHALES DO VISIT YEAR ROUND.
Fort Ross State Historic Park
The fort is situated atop a mesa which is surrounded by ravines which abut the sea. It is constructed of redwood planks (there is no other wood used in any of the structures) and forms a palisade. It is four varas high, uniformly, and is surmounted by a beam set with pointed stakes intended to dissuade any assault.
