THE LEGEND OF THE DOGWOOD If you look closely, you may notice this flower make a number of appearances at our wedding: in our invitation, in our decor, in our wedding favors, in Annika’s ring. It has become an image of great meaning to us during our relationship. As the legend goes, Jesus was crucified on the wood of a Dogwood tree. As a reminder of this sacrifice, the tree’s flowers took on the image of the Christ's sacrifice with four petals and scarlet ‘droplets’ on each petal. This has become one of our favorite images of the Sacrament of Marriage: it is a participation in the beauty of the power of Love and the sacrifice that Love demands.
