All guests are welcome to camp on site. There are limitless camping spaces, and bathrooms and showers will be provided as well as a "getting ready area" and a rustic kitchen. There are also ample covered areas in case of rain. There are cabins on site with heat and AC if anyone needs to escape the elements for a while. And last but not least, there is going to be a wood fired sauna!
If you need camping gear, everything can be rented at French Broad Outfitters in advance. If you are not traveling with a car and need help picking up your gear, please let us know.
There are going to be two on-site RV's with a bathroom, limited water for showers, handwashing etc and electricity that are available for rent (either the whole RV or spaces in a communal RV). These are first come, first serve. We have also secured a few rental houses within 10-15 minutes and have hotel suggestions, all listed in the travel and lodging section of this website. These house rentals are refundable up until August 6, so please let one of the brides know before this date if you would like to book one, otherwise we will give the rental up. If you don't see something that suits you, we suggest perusing VRBO or other vacation rental websites or looking at hotels near the Asheville airport.
Deerfield's Retreat sits on several acres of fields and is somewhat hilly, with footpaths and unpaved roads being the main way to get around, sort of like a mountain summer camp. We recognize this may present some mobility challenges, and so for those struggling to traverse the outdoor terrain, there is a golf cart on site which we will be designating someone to use during scheduled events in order to assist with transport needs around the property.
We will be providing a meal Friday night during the rehearsal dinner, Saturday night after the ceremony, and brunch on Sunday morning. In between those meals there will be a camping kitchen set up on site with a camp stove, a few pots, pans, cutting board, cooler and utensils as well as some basic groceries (items to make sandwiches, coffee, fruit and water). If you would like to bring your own groceries and/or contribute to this camping kitchen, feel free!
"Wildflower disco" is meant to bring together the aesthetics of rustic, vintage & glam. Imagine you go to a retro nightclub in the middle of the woods. What would you want to be wearing to that party? We especially encourage florals/earthy tones with a pop (or more than a pop!) of sparkle and shine, and vintage cuts and styles. Please, no loose plastic glitter than could flake off, we want to leave the grounds plastic free when we leave. If you want to add glitter to your outfit, please use bioglitter. Have fun with the theme or feel free to skip it, as it is not required and mostly we want you to be comfortable! Just anything semi-formal or cocktail-style will do. We strongly advise against stiletto heels.
A shower/bathroom trailer, a wood fired sauna, a camping kitchen with a few provisions (sandwiches, fruit, coffee, water, a dish washing station, a stove, a few pots and pans, utensils, and a couple packs of disposable plates and cups, although we encourage you to bring a bowl and cup if convenient), a cabin with A/C and heat that will be opened if necessary depending on the weather, limited WiFi & a golf cart available for those who have mobility restrictions. The RV's come equipped with their own bathrooms, kitchen, some freshwater and electricity.
Phone service will be limited, depending on your provider, and while we encourage our guests to unplug as much as possible, wifi is available in one of the cabins and can be accessed in or within close proximity of this cabin. There will be plugs to charge your phones with.
Yes! Please bring a towel and bathing suit as both lakes are spring fed and great for swimming. There is no lifeguard on site, however, so swim at your own risk.
We are happy to receive any gifts, especially sentimental ones, but our registry is a fund for those in our community who have been diagnosed with cancer & are struggling to keep up with costs. We are so lucky and privileged to have our health and all our needs met, therefore we ask that all financial gifts be put into our registry so we can use this opportunity to help our loved ones.
Food contributions to the camp kitchen are appreciated, as well as firewood. If you are camping, bring bedding, a tent/hammock/car you can stay in, clothing for hot, cold or rainy weather, and anything else you need to be comfortable. We would also appreciate if campers/those staying in RV's brought their own travel mug and set of utensils to cut back on disposables, but we will have disposables available for those who don't have these items. We request all guests bring a towel if they plan to swim or use the sauna, and we advise all guests to bring their own sunscreen and bug spray.
As much as we love dogs, we are asking you to not bring your dog to the venue. If you would like to bring your dog traveling with you, there are some off-site dog friendly options listed in the Travel & Lodging page of this website.
If your child was listed on your RSVP then they are welcome and we would love to have them! However, please be aware there are two swimming holes on site and currently no lifeguard. There are also a lot of forests around the property and it is not fenced off. Please be prepared for this so we can have a fun and safe time with your children! We have not secured babysitting services but we are open to doing so if parents are interested, so if you would like to hire a babysitter for the event please reach out and we can help you make it happen!
For those staying nearby but off-site there will be a van picking people up in time for cocktail hour and taking people home towards the end of the reception at regular intervals between approximately 10 PM and midnight. Please reach out to one of the brides in advance if you would like to be added to the pickup list. Otherwise, Uber or Lyft are also options.
