Flight
The easiest option is to fly directly into Mérida. From the airport, you can either rent a car or get a cab. It is roughly 30 minutes from the airport to the center of town. Mérida has uber as well. A few airlines have stated they will be adding direct flights from Atlanta, Miami, and Orlando starting in July 2024. We advise waiting to book your flights until then.
Flight
Cancun Airport Flying to Cancun will likely be the cheaper option, if you plan to rent a car and explore the area it's a good choice. There is also a bus that runs from the airport to Mérida. 1. Get Cash at the airport for tolls ( = 600 -700 MXN) (No ATMS on the way) 2. Expect to pay 10-16$ per day extra for car insurance 3. Ignore all offers when exiting the airport 4. 3.5 - 4 hours to Merida, easy drive not much along the way 5. Valladolid makes for a nice lunch or dinner stop halfway
Travel Note
We will not be doing a hotel block. We will continue adding recommendations to hotels, VRBO's, and Airbnbs (we recommend checking both sites). There are a ton of great options for all-size groups. The city is very walkable, Uber is also available and inexpensive. If you want to be near the shuttle pick up stay at or near the Hyatt Regency Merida, around the Paseo de Montejo area. The welcome party will be close to Plaza Grande. Around Plaza Grande and Paseo de Montejo are the largest concentration of bars and restaurants. If you want to stay close to us (Villa Merida Boutique Hotel) / the Sunday pool party, stay at or near the Kunuk Hotel Boutique. We suggest picking a place with a pool to lounge at between eating good meals and exploring. Again if you are hesitant to book something on your own, please reach out, we are happy to help you find the right fit. Please let us know where you will be staying annieandstrattonwedding@gmail.com. We may organize a 2nd shuttle spot.
Travel Note
There are bike rental stations all around town. Great easy way to get around. Follow the link on how to download the app. If you are still alive and looking for exercise on Sunday head to Paseo de Montejo for biciruta. They close down the streets every Sunday. Grab a city bike and join the crowd in biking a loop around the city! https://bromptoning.com/traveling-adventures/biciruta-merida-car-free-sunday-in-mexico/
