The Savannah historic district is a fantastic walking area, with lots of beautiful surprises spread throughout. The central historic area can be explored within a 10-15 minute radius and you can walk through the expanded historic district within about 30 minutes. There are 24 "squares" in the midst of the historic district neighborhood. Each square is unique. The easiest way to experience Savannah’s squares is to walk on Bull St (the central North-South street in the district) starting at the river and proceeding up to Gaston St. On this relatively short route you traverse five great squares, including Chippawa Sq where Forrest Gump was filmed. If you really enjoy the squares, Barnard St and Abercorn St which run parallel to Bull likewise have five squares on each of them. Forsyth Park is a beautiful urban park that is usually buzzing with people. It's a full mile around the perimeter and there is a beautiful fountain in the middle.
A truly unique coastal dining experience. Enjoy a delicious meal overlooking the marsh. It is a bit of a drive from downtown but totally worth the excursion. We cannot recommend this highly enough! The Wyld is close to the Welcome Event and could be a great option as a pre-Welcome Event dinner spot. Always be sure to check that they are open before heading over as they are known to close for private events!
