It all started in 2020, when Annie’s neighbors, who also happened to have a son on the same swim team as Kevin, decided the two of them should meet. So, thanks to them (shoutout to the Phillips family!), Kevin and Annie were set up in the middle of a pandemic. After Kevin reached out multiple times via Facebook Messenger, Annie finally decided to give talking to him a chance. Mostly because she had never been hit on through Facebook DMs before… because no one uses that, Kevin. They really got talking after Kevin asked Annie’s neighbor to send her a Snapchat while they were at a party after his senior year conference swim meet. Kevin posed, biting his medal with a miniature Heineken keg on his shoulder, and wrote the caption, “To my future wife.” Nice work manifesting that one, Kevin. The day restaurants reopened (back when you could only sit outside for dinner!), Kevin took Annie on their first date. Somehow, that first date turned into what will be seven years together by the time they get married. Annie and Kevin spent their first year doing long distance while Annie finished nursing school, then moved to Chicago after three years of dating. Since then, they’ve survived Annie working night shift, four months of construction in an 800-square-foot apartment, Kevin switching to night shift just as Annie finally made it to days, a shattered glass shower door (if you know, you know!), a salmonella incident that ended in a good ol’ ER visit, and a surprise 14-hour road trip with Kevin’s parents after multiple cancelled flights. Through all of that, there have also been years and years of laughter, traveling, smiling, and making memories together and, most importantly, becoming each other’s very best friends. Shortly after their five-year anniversary, Kevin proposed and then threw Annie the ultimate surprise birthday party, complete with the best gift a girl could ask for. Seven years, one pandemic, a move to the city, two countries traveled together, and a whole lot of memories later, we can’t wait to celebrate with all of the people who have been part of our story.
