Mission San Juan Capistrano, historic landmark and museum, is the Birthplace of Orange County. It was founded more than two hundred years ago as the 7th of 21 missions statewide and features a chapel still standing where Saint Serra once celebrated Mass. Today, it is a monument to California’s multi-cultural history, embracing its Native American, Spanish, Mexican and European heritage. Originally built as a self sufficient community by Spanish Padres and Native Americans, the Mission was a center for agriculture, industry, education and religion. Famous for the Annual Return of the Swallows, Mission San Juan Capistrano is the “Jewel of the California Missions”
Built in the Los Rios district, the oldest neighborhood in California, the marketplace features eateries, shops and a cute micro brewery with indoor/outdoor seating.
Grab some snacks and a bottle of wine - Salt Creek Park is a great spot to grab sunset. Young's Beach Shack offers casual food (think tacos & poke bowl) and beverages. The park has picnic benches and grass. You can also walk down to the sand. **Salt Creek Park is a bit steeper of a walk - similar to a steep long driveway. It would not be recommended for someone with mobility concerns**
Laguna Beach is a coastal town that runs a few miles up the coast from Dana Point. Prior to moving to NYC, the bride called Laguna Beach home so it is near and dear to her heart. A few of her favorite spots include: 1. Treasure Island Beach (there are picnic tables and grass here OR come here for low tide to check out the tide pools) 2. Main Beach - this is the central area of Laguna Beach. It is easily walkable with restaurants, shopping and is a quaint California beach town. If you head to Main Beach you might want to check out Hotel Laguna or the Deck for coastal refreshments and views.
Whale and dolphin watching tours that depart nearby Dana Point Harbor.
