Flight
Honolulu International Airport (HNL) on Oahu is Hawaii’s major airport, serving as the entry point for most of Hawaii’s visitors. All major domestic carriers and many international carriers serve Oahu, so you can get here from just about anywhere.
Rental Car
Car rentals are what most visitors use when they come to O'ahu as they offer the most convenience overall. You can pick up the car at the airport upon arrival, and return it when you depart, and although you might encounter parking fees, it’s there whenever you want to use it, and you are free to roam. Those who see themselves coming and going throughout their trip will find a car to greatly enhance their efficiency and range of exploration. We are recommending Kayak as an easy to use website to compare car rental rates across companies, but feel free to use any service you like.
Travel Note
If you book a stay in Waikiki and want an easy and affordable way to leave the airport and don't need a rental car on the first day, then we recommend Robert's Hawai'i or Speedi Shuttle. Robert's Hawai'i charges $34 for a round trip ticket per person while also providing service to Kahala, Ko olina, and Turtle Bay. Speedi Shuttle is $16 per person and goes to different hotels. https://www.robertshawaii.com/airport-shuttle/oahu/ https://www.speedishuttle.com/honolulu-airport-shuttles
Rental Car
Zipcar allows you to book a car on demand by the hour or day if you don't need a rental car for the whole trip. Turo is a bit like Airbnb on wheels: It provides a secure platform for people to rent out their cars at affordable rates.
