His: It was Friday and I had no plans for the weekend. After evaluating my options, I decided to tag along with my friend Clint and a few others for drinks and dinner. We landed on De nada, known for strong margaritas, so I was easily sold. It was mentioned that there would be a few other ladies joining us for dinner that I wouldn’t know, but I didn’t think much of it at the time. After waiting the “New Austin” standard for a table, we got seated and I was at the head of the table. It was a big group, so conversations were split and it turned out, I was the furthest person away from Annie. We didn’t get a chance to talk—or really look at each other—all dinner. The drinks were flowing so we all agreed to meet at a bar called the Cloak Room afterwards. Ready to leave, I got up and that was when Annie and I first exchanged words. She asked me how I was getting to the next spot. I answered and once again didn’t think much of it. I left with my friends, Annie left with hers, and that was it for De Nada. We got to Cloak room, and I walked over to the table where Annie and her friend Kinsley were sitting and asked if she wanted a beer. She said yes, I brought her a beer and sat down next to her. We talked for a long time and before I knew it, the night was over. I made my move. I asked Annie if she wanted to go on a walk the next day. Yeah… a walk. Somehow, she agreed, we exchanged numbers, and I texted her when I got home to confirm the time. The next morning, I woke up and realized it was raining so no walk. I texted Annie and called an audible to brunch. She agreed. I opted for Hyde Park Bar and Grill —a favorite for me due to the $2 Bloody Mary special. When I picked her up, Annie was dressed “cute” and I was in sweatpants and a hoodie. Tough look for me, however, we immediately picked up where we left, and we didn't stop until I dropped her off. It was the best first date ever. She was beyond cool, extremely pretty, and had her head screwed on right. I dropped her off and the rest is history. To this day, Annie gives me crap because I “waited too long” to text her after brunch. Oh well, see you at the alter honey! Hers: It comes when you are least expecting it! What was shaping up to be an uneventful weekend, turned out to be the best most lifechanging weekend of my life. My roommates went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, and a lot of our friends were out of town. So we had the idea to round up everyone who was in Austin to go to a big dinner at De Nada. If you have never been to De Nada, their margs are the strongest most lethal drink ever, and yes more than chispas. We sat at opposite ends of the dinner and didn't talk too much since one of my best friends and bridesmaids, Kinsley, was in town running the marathon that weekend. I was too occupied catching up with her to show any interest but I did notice the cute guy at the end of the table. Funny thing I do remember about that dinner was he had gotten everyone silverware or napkins maybe? and someone goes "Aaron you are such a DAD." Little did I know...! Anyways we all decided to go to Cloakroom after dinner, the speakeasy bar underneath the Capitol. I was at the bar waiting for a drink when he came up beside me and offered to buy a beer. We hit it off instantly and spent the entire night talking, even while my high school friends showed up. He never left the table, and I watched as his friends mentioned they were leaving for another bar, and he looked at me and said "no, I'm good" with a smile on his face. While Kinsley and I were leaving the bar, he got my number and asked me to go on a walk in the morning the next day at "11AM sharp". When I woke up, hungover and tired with texts from an unknown number, it was pouring rain outside. Assuming the worst, I thought he'd cancel or vaguely reschedule, but instead, he asked me to brunch. We hit it off instantly, and the rest was history!
