Annemarie and Dave met through mutual friends in 2020. One week Annemarie was invited to a virtual brunch hangout with her best friend Brittany and her Dungeons and Dragons group, which just so happened to also be Dave's D&D group. In 2020 this was a normal thing for Dave's friends to have, so just as most Saturdays that year, he logged on and met someone new. Annie and Dave immediately found excuses to talk with each other in the group setting... there was definitely a spark. Towards the end of the year, Annie joined the D&D group through Brittany for the Halloween session. After that, there were only a few sessions left in the year, but after the new year Dave made his move and asked Annie out. January 8th they had their first virtual date, and they spent every night online together that year until Dave sold his house and moved to Maine in September 2021.

Sometime during the week before May 28th 2023, Dave had suggested that he and Annie take a trip up to Acadia National Park and have a picnic at the top of Cadillac Mountain, a pretty normal weekend activity. The weather was supposed to be perfect, and it was a spot they enjoyed going to in the past. The morning of, Dave packed all the things necessary for the day and they headed up to have brunch at their favorite stop along the way. After they made their way to Acadia National park and up to Cadillac Mountain. Dave parked and said, lets go scope out the area for our picnic. They started walking down the rocks at the top, Annie leading the way. Dave said hey, hold up a second, Annie turned around to see Dave proposing. Totally surprised, not expecting this at all, Annie exclaimed yes and they ecstatically spent the day enjoying the park and smiling like dorks.
