Ferry

Bald Head Island is a twenty minute journey across the Cape Fear River from Southport, North Carolina. You will access BHI by taking a passenger ferry, as there are no cars on the island. BHI's passenger ferries depart the mainland from Deep Point Marina, located at 1301 Ferry Road in Southport, NC. General Lot Parking is $8 a day per car. Ferries leave the mainland on the hour and the island on the half-hour, beginning at 7 a.m. Round-trip tickets cost $22. Tram reservations should be made by calling (910) 457-5003 or online. The tram services will transport all luggage from the ferry terminal to your house rental, which is included in your ferry ticket. We recommend using large tupperware bins to pack any food or alcohol you want to bring onto the island (you can purchase beer/wine but there are no liquor stores on the island). Flight

Wilmington International Airport – ILM

The Wilmington airport is the closest airport to Bald Head Island. The airport is approximately 1 hour north of Southport, NC. From here you will either need to use a shuttle service, rent a car, or Uber to get to the ferry station. Transportation from any of the airports mentioned to the Deep Point Marina Ferry Terminal can be arranged through: Southern Hospitality (910) 457-4949 or (800) 406-4949, Affordable Affluence (910) 251-8999 or (800) 250-6851, or Oak Island Cab (910) 278-6373. Should you choose to rent a car from the airport, please note it costs $8/day to leave the car off the island at the ferry terminal. Should you choose to drive from the PA/NJ/NYC area, travel time ranges between 9-11 hours depending on where you are coming from. An Uber from ILM to the ferry ranges from about $30-$75 depending on time of day, demand, and size of vehicle needed for your party.

Flight

Myrtle Beach International Airport – MYR

This is a smaller airport with direct flights from both the NYC area and Philadelphia airports. located approximately 1-1.5 hours south of Southport.

Raleigh/Durham International Airport – RDU

RDU is the next best option, servicing commercial flights. RDU is an International Airport – there are flights available to and from pretty much any destination (if not direct, connecting flights are available). Plus we think it's a pretty cool place to visit for the day if you have the time :) Raleigh is about 2.5 hours north west of Southport.

While there are no large hotels on the island, there are plenty of rental properties that can accommodate all party sizes in various locations on the island - oceanfront, oceanview, in the maritime forest or even on the golf course. Bald Head Island Rentals - If you book through this agency, they will provide a 10% discount if you mention the Henrich-Cooke wedding. It is significantly easier to find a home to suit your needs if you call the agency.
