The long wait first date

The story of Kyle and Anne begins mid-August 2019 with two swipes in the same direction and a message from Kyle that started it all. After some time spent getting to know each other through chatting and phone calls, Anne and Kyle decided to meet in person. The plan was to meet on a Sunday at the Milwaukee Public Market. According to Kyle, Anne’s arrival was...6, 8, 12 hours late from the original time planned. According to Anne, the original time was pushed back due to a school related deadline that popped up and Anne did her best to keep Kyle updated about Anne’s need to push the meeting time back (I mean, she had to look her best!). Anne was arriving in an Uber when Kyle was ready to reschedule. Luckily, Anne arrived just in time to meet Kyle outside and explain that her tardiness was simply one of Anne’s many (endearing) traits especially in the middle of graduate school. (You can see this moment reenacted in our engagement photos with Anne walking up behind Kyle to embrace him.) Anne and Kyle spent the afternoon drinking coffee at the Public Market, walking around the Third Ward down to the river, grabbing a bite to eat, and not having a break in conversation as they quickly learned shared interests in life, work, music, and much more. Anne had a moment by the Milwaukee River just a couple hours after first meeting Kyle when she thought this could be the person she marries. After that first date, Anne and Kyle wanted to spend every moment possible together. Anne was busy with graduate school, but Kyle showed his growing love for Anne early by being supportive and patient with Anne’s mounting workload. Kyle made every effort to keep Anne fed and energized through hours and hours of schoolwork. Additionally, Kyle’s immediate interest in Lady (their cat that Anne has had since 2012) was another sign to Anne that he was the one. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic proved challenging for many. Anne and Kyle found themselves becoming closer than ever as they supported each other through facing the pandemic while still having to show up to their respective hospitals for work. Kyle experienced first-hand what it was like to show up in full protective gear for entire shifts, switching to an evening schedule, and having to go into isolation rooms. Anne and Kyle realized how important love and family are and that they both knew they would eventually become a family together. Kyle soon moved in with Anne and Lady and their desire to become a family continued to grow. Anne successfully made her way through graduate school and Kyle and Anne were finally able to plan a weekend getaway. There, Kyle proposed to Anne on a gorgeous October day in Marquette, Iowa at Pike’s Peak on the Bridal Veil Trail. Kyle says this was not planned, but Anne had her suspicions when Kyle suggested the hike and to her delight, she was right! Anne and Kyle soon began wedding planning and enjoying engagement. As a couple they have grown to appreciate the beauty of mindful activities together, relaxing nights at home, exploring the natural world they are a part of, and connecting with friends and family. If you are reading this you know how important you have been to us both individually and as a couple in our past, present, and for our future. We are forever grateful for the love and support all of you have shown us in all your different ways, in person, by phone, and in spirit.
