Things To Do

We're excited to share some of our favorite areas of WA with you. Some of these are a bit of a drive away, but there are also plenty of places of interest in the immediate Tacoma area as well. Kid friendly places have each been marked.

Mount Rainier National Park

WA

One of the most iconic vistas in the country. But no biggie!

Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument

WA 98616

Plenty of hiking to do in the area or just visit if hiking is not your thing. Interesting for all and kid friendly!

Olympic National Park

WA

Rainforest, mountain tops, stunning ocean beaches, hot springs, mountain lakes, and massive waterfalls. And lions and tigers and bears, oh my! OK, maybe no tigers.

Hoh Rainforest - Olympic National Park

5629-4911 Upper Hoh Road, Forks, WA 98331

If you plan on visiting the Hoh, make sure to get an early start, ideally on a weekday. Park entrance lines can get very long.

Kopachuck State Park

10712 56th Street Northwest, Gig Harbor, WA 98335

Northwest Trek Wildlife Park

11610 Trek Drive East, Eatonville, WA 98328

Kid friendly!

Foss Harbor Marina

821 Dock Street, Tacoma, WA 98402

Rent a Kayak and/or paddleboard or two!

Waterfalls of the Olympic Peninsula

WA 98331

Whale Watching (Responsibly)

Snoqualmie Falls

Snoqualmie, WA 98024

Kid friendly!

Hurricane Ridge

Forks, WA 98331

Kid friendly!

Kalaloch

Kalaloch, WA 98331

Kid friendly!

Wallace Falls State Park

14503 Wallace Lake Road, Gold Bar, WA 98251

This is great for kids that are old enough to comfortably hike a short distance.

Summit House Restaurant

33914 Crystal Mountain Boulevard, Enumclaw, WA 98022

You'll take a gondola ride to the highest restaurant in WA. Needless to say, lunch will come served with an awesome view of Rainier and the Cascades to boot. Bryce and I are personal fans of Crystal-the site of the proposal! Summit House does not take reservations and you can expect a full restaurant, especially on weekends. So, if you plan to visit and have lunch-be sure to make it an early start! There are also plenty of picnic tables at the peak, should you opt for the Gondola ride and Rainier view but not care to risk the wait for a table. This is very kid friendly!

San Juan Islands

WA

If you are considering the San Juans, please take the ferry schedules into very particular consideration. Unless you are visiting Vashon Island from Tacoma (and easy one day trip), this is likely a multi-day trip and the ferry won't wait if you are late. Further, ferry car lines can be quite long. So, if you don't get on the last ferry of the day, you will be stuck. All that said, with a little planning none of these things should be an issue. The San Juans are truly beautiful and 1000% worth the trip! Kid friendly!

Seattle

Seattle, WA

OK, this one is pretty obvious. Below are handful of places to check out if you spend a day or two in Seattle. Pike Place Market and the Seattle Waterfront The Gum Wall (yes, you read that right) Space Needle Alki Beach Boeing Tour Experience Music Project Museum of Flight Kerry Park (Awesome skyline views) Ballard Locks, Neighborhood and Discovery Park Fremont Neighborhood Seattle Underground Tour Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum Easy ferry access to Bainbridge and Bremerton or a trip to Victoria B.C. via the Victoria Clipper. Yes, you will need a passport for the latter. Very kid friendly. But watch those little fingers at the Gum Wall!

For all the days along the way
