We’re getting married!

“When you know, you know” is frustrating advice. Until you know. Then, it makes perfect sense, like a cosmic inside joke. Jake knew first—or, at least, he had a pretty strong hunch. He began the courtship by filling Anne-Lorraine’s Twitter replies with obscure book passages, and was thoroughly charmed by her on an early Zoom call. The strange magnetism of her presence, as well as the warmth and poetry of the voice messages that followed, made the ocean between them seem a small chasm to cross. Thankfully, Jake managed to secure an invite to Berlin from mutual friends, where Anne-Lorraine was able to catch up. Anne-Lorraine knew within two hours of meeting Jake, unexpectedly and without doubt, somewhere between a crucial cup of coffee, a cozy conversation under a willow tree, and Jake’s offer (first rebuffed, then accepted) to push her bike through the streets of Berlin. It was the clarity of the knowing that struck her: the immediate sense of familiarity, paired with an unfamiliar sense of care. “Damn” she thought. “Things are about to change.” After a year of trans-Atlantic romance, Anne-Lorraine left Germany to join Jake in San Francisco. In February, they settled in Brooklyn. Now, they want to celebrate that early knowing with you — at their wedding!
