The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is the largest cultural institution in the southwest region of the United States. The Museum’s encyclopedic collections of nearly 70,000 objects cover world cultures dating from antiquity to the present and include in-depth holdings of American art, European paintings, Pre-Columbian and African gold, decorative arts and design, photography, prints and drawings, 20th- and 21st-century painting and sculpture, and Latin American art.

The three-story glass structure containing a 50-foot waterfall houses anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000 individual butterflies from 60 different species at any given time. Though butterflies get top billing, the center is home to other insects, such as praying mantises and hissing cockroaches, in the Brown Hall of Entomology. Additionally it shelters larger-than-life models and interactive exhibits.

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in southwest Houston is officially the first traditional Hindu Mandir of its kind not just in the city, but in all of North America, offering a place of serenity, peace, worship, and prayer. Even if you’re not into spirituality, the atmosphere of the area, combined with the striking, magnificent facade of the building enough to warrant a visit.

Listen to the gentle roar of the waterwall as tranquility overcomes you in this beautiful urban setting. Pro Tip: We love packing a picnic and sitting in the live oak tree lined park with the waterwall as our view. It’s definitely a must see.
