The day before my 30th birthday, Dawson took me to the Botanical Gardens in San Antonio. I was so distracted by the gorgeous scenery, I didn't even notice Dawson scanning the gardens, looking for the perfect spot. When he saw the huge, twisted cactus tree, he knew this was the place. He dropped a code word to our friend Maya, who instantly made an excuse to wander away. I was slower on the uptake and begin marching off, mind already on our next activity. I asked Dawson over my shoulder "What should we do next?" When he responded "Celebrate!" I turned to ask what he meant, "Celebrate wha..." but he was already down on one knee with a tiny wooden box. It's honestly a blur from there. I'm sure he asked and I'm sure I said yes. Maya came back for hugs and we all went to celebrate with margaritas on the Riverwalk. Best Cinco de Mayo ever.
