Annaleise and Alex’s story began in September 2018 as freshmen at Michigan State University. A chance introduction through Alex’s high school friends—who lived in Annaleise’s dorm—led to weekends spent at tailgates, parties, and getting to know one another. Before long, it was clear their connection was something special, and they began dating in November, just before Thanksgiving break. They went on to graduate from Michigan State together in 2022, even walking in the same commencement ceremony. After college, Annaleise headed to Grand Rapids for graduate school, and Alex wasn’t far behind. They put down roots together, moving in together in 2024 and buying their first home in 2025.

What began as a planned weekend trip to Traverse City for wine tasting with friends turned into something far more special. Alex surprised me with a private tour of Chateau Chantal on Old Mission Peninsula, where we learned about the winemaking process and took in the beautiful views. At the end of the tour, he popped the question! To celebrate, he had another surprise waiting—our friends and my parents joined us at the winery to celebrate our engagement together.
