Things To Do

Campus Martius Park

800 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48226

Short drive/walk from the hotels. Campus Martius is a mini hub of downtown Detroit. Find shopping and dining at this crossroads. Voted #1 public square by USA today, this park marks Detroit's point of origin where the city's plan was originally laid out.

Detroit River Walk, near Bridge

Detroit RiverWalk, Detroit, MI 48207

Walk along a newly renovated section of the city. Stroll along the Detroit River and gaze across the water to Canada! Detroit is one of the few places in the US that you can stand directly north of Canada.

Buddy's Pizza

1565 Broadway Street, Detroit, MI 48226

Though many argue who has the best one, Buddy's is a popular Detroit-style pizza joint. Go here or find another parlor, it's a vital part of Detroit cuisine. You can't go wrong with a fluffy, deep-dish slice, cooked in a steel pan, with cheese crisped along the edges. Corner slices are one of God's gifts to mankind.

American Coney Island

114 West Lafayette Boulevard, Detroit, MI 48226

One of 2 staple diners. It's a dive and real Detroiters fight over which has a better coney dog: Lafayette or American. A coney dog is a chili dog using chili with no beans, plus onions and mustard.

Lafayette Coney Island

118 West Lafayette Boulevard, Detroit, MI 48226

The other diner! Like I said, try them both.

Detroit Institute of Arts

5200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202

Incredible art museum prominently featuring murals by Diego Rivera and over 100 galleries. This institution features works spanning the globe and reaching from ancient to contemporary times. Entry is $20 per person.

Motown Museum

2648 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit, MI 48208

For my museum people, take a look at an important part of musical history. The birthplace of Motown, Detroit has a fascinating story. You can learn about the people and innovation that inspired a whole generation of music.
