Things to do in Salem

The Wedding Website of Anna Neumann and Colin Downey
The Salem of today is a charming seaside town north of Boston, full of museums and attractions within walking distance of the historic downtown. Salem is all about walking and exploring, especially down Essex Street, which is full of street performers, food, and shopping. Since September is one of the most popular times to visit Salem, advance ticket reservations may be worth your while if there's a particular attraction you don't want to miss - but if advance planning isn't your thing have no fear, there's plenty to do and see around town without booking ahead of time! Here are a few places we recommend visiting during your stay.
Peabody Essex Museum

Peabody Essex Museum

161 Essex Street, Salem, MA 01970

The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) has the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating and collecting museum in the United States. Far from a typical museum, it is more an amalgamation of entities, a collection of collections.

The House of the Seven Gables

The House of the Seven Gables

115 Derby Street, Salem, MA 01970

Designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2007, The House of the Seven Gables is best known today as the setting of world-renowned American author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1851 novel. But it is so much more! Learn about four centuries of inclusive history at one of America’s most beloved historic homes.

Salem Pioneer Village

Salem Pioneer Village

98 West Avenue, Salem, MA 01970

Built in 1930 to mark the tercentennial of Massachusetts, Pioneer Village is America's first living history museum. The village sits on three acres of land and contains various examples of colonial architecture: dugouts, wigwams, thatched roof cottages, and the Governor's Faire House. Culinary and medicinal gardens and a blacksmith shop further interpret early 17th-century colonial life.
