For those flying in, the closest airport is Wilmington International Airport (ILM), just 45 minutes from the Bald Head Island Ferry Station in Southport, NC. Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is about 1 hour and 35 minutes away, and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is approximately 2 hours and 35 minutes by car. Bald Head Island is accessible only by ferry from the Bald Head Island Ferry Station in Southport, NC. Motor vehicles aren’t allowed on the island, so the ferry ride is an essential and scenic part of the journey. Parking is available at the ferry station, and tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day of travel. To ensure a smooth experience, we recommend booking tickets ahead of time. Ferries run daily, starting at 6:00 AM from Southport to BHI, with departures every hour (or every hour and a half in the afternoon). The last ferry leaves BHI for Southport at 11:30 PM. The 20-minute ride offers beautiful views of the Intracoastal Waterway and local landmarks, so sit back and enjoy!

Bald Head Island is car-free, but getting around is easy with golf carts and bicycles, which are widely available for rent. Most rental homes on the island include access to these, making travel convenient and fun. For your initial arrival to the island, tram reservations can be made from the marina to your rental home upon purchasing your ferry tickets. For accommodations, we recommend Wendy Wilmot Properties, a local rental company specializing in island homes, as well as VRBO and Airbnb. The rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception will all take place on the north side of the island, but since the island is small, most places are just a 10- to 15-minute golf cart ride away. If you’re staying on the mainland, Southport offers a range of charming accommodations. You’ll find great options on Airbnb, VRBO, and popular travel booking platforms, including hotels and B&Bs.
