FAQs

If you have any questions that have not been answered here, please reach out to us!
Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Yes!

Question

Weather provisions?

Answer

Although the temperatures in Georgia start to wind down in September we can still expect it to be warm. The ceremony as well as the reception will both be indoors and air conditioned, while the luncheon will be outside in a shaded area.

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

Yes! We have blocked off a number of rooms at a discounted group rate at the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson in Cumming, GA for your convenience. Please see under the Travel section for more information.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the hotel to the ceremony?

Answer

Yes, we will be arranging a complementary shuttle service from the Country Inn and Suites hotel to the ceremony, then from the ceremony to the reception. Please let us know in advance if you are interested in this service so we can get an accurate headcount.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Yes, both the church and the Sandfrey home should have adequate parking the day-of, although it never hurts to arrive early and/or carpool.

Question

What to expect from the ceremony?

Answer

The Orthodox Christian wedding ceremony is an ancient rite and sacrament rich with biblical imagery, prayer, and symbolism. As for the finer details well, "come and see"! As for more practical details, please be aware that the chapel, like most Orthodox churches, does not have any pews. There will be limited seating, so if you are unable to stand for the duration of the ceremony (approximately 45 minutes) please request seating in advance and you will be accommodated! As mentioned in the dress code, men are asked to remove their hats inside the chapel while women are welcome (but not required) to cover their heads with a hat or scarf.

Question

What if I want to attend an Orthodox Christian service?

Answer

There will be an Orthodox Liturgy the morning of our wedding date if you wish to join the bride and groom in attendance. Liturgy begins at 10am, though if you wish to confess please plan to arrive by 9:30 to secure your spot in line. Please visit stmaryofegypt.org for more information. People of all faiths are welcome to attend our Liturgy but please be aware that only baptized Orthodox Christians may participate in any sacraments, including Confession and Holy Communion. The services at St. Mary of Egypt are primarily in English, with some Church Slavonic scattered throughout.
