How We Met

When She Makes the First Move

I had been praying for quite some time to meet my future husband. It was around the end of June 2024 and I felt like I was going to meet my husband at camp meeting in the next few weeks. I went to MS ALJC camp meeting at my home church, Bethlehem Church, around mid-July and saw Isaac there from a distance and thought he was really handsome. I remembered that we were Facebook friends as he'd sent me a friend request about two years prior. After a quick Facebook search, I saw he was single and hoped that over the course of the next 3 days of camp meeting that we would meet. Long story short, we didn't. I tried to orchestrate us meeting a few times and it failed each time. Afterwards, I still wanted to meet him or at least talk to him. After about a month on August 12, I worked up the courage (after a lot of prayer) to message him on Instagram. After he left my message unopened for a few hours, adding greatly to my nerves, he finally messaged back and we never stopped talking from that moment.

How We Knew

The George Bailey Story

A few days after Isaac and I started messaging, I knew he was the one I was going to marry based on this one text he sent me, but lets backtrack first. In December 2023 I felt impressed to start writing letters to my future husband in this little notebook I found in Marshall's. On Christmas day I was writing in there telling my future husband Merry Christmas and how hopefully next Christmas we would be together. As I was writing, I started talking about how it's weird writing to someone I don't know the name of, so I was gonna give him a name for the time being. I decided to call him George Bailey since I had been watching It's a Wonderful Life and loved his character. I called him George Bailey in the next few letters, but then kinda let it slip off. Fast forward to August 2024. I was laying in bed after attending a church service at The Apostolic Conference in Madison, MS, just texting away with Isaac. He starts telling me about how his church, Bethel United Apostolic Church, was going to be putting on a Christmas play and that he was playing the lead. Can you guess what play it was? It's a Wonderful Life. Can you guess who he was playing? George Bailey. I leapt out of bed so fast when he told me, screamed a little, grabbed my notebook, and proceeded to read to my mom exactly what I wrote on Christmas day 2023 and what Isaac had just told me. I knew in that moment that God was telling me he was going to be the one I was going to marry.

The Proposal

April 13, 2025

After church one Sunday, Isaac was eager to go to the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid in Memphis to go look at "crawfish boilers." I could tell by the look on his face and his excitement that we weren't just going to look at "crawfish boilers" and that something was up his sleeve. On one of our first dates, he took me to the Pyramid and we took our very first picture together there on the lookout deck. It was later that day that he officially asked me to be his girlfriend, so in a way the Pyramid had a little sentimental value to it. So we get in the car, our friends from church are also joining (one of which I see toting a camera), and we set off 30mins to the Pyramid - out of the way, I know, even fishier. On the way there we're all in a group text and they're talking about going to the lookout deck when we get there, and I'm super suspicious now. I start texting my best friend, Callie, saying what was going on and she believed fully I was about to get engaged. So I'm keeping it cool, mentally preparing, making small talk with Isaac until we get there. Once we get there, Isaac and I start walking to the building and he goes, "Oh wait, I forgot my wallet," and goes back to the car. I can see him put something in his suit jacket and then walk back with his wallet in his hand. Super slick. We meet up with everyone and immediately get in line to go to the lookout deck. No looking at boilers or anything. I feel pretty confident at this point that this man is about to propose. We get up to the top and go straight to the lookout deck that is empty. Once we get out there, I go to the railing immediately and just wait for Isaac to come up behind me and propose essentially. Our friend, Madelyn, walks up and is like, "Y'all need to get a picture. Give me your purse, Anna." Give me your purse is like code for you're about to get proposed to and you don't want that in your pictures. As soon as she steps back, Isaac is right next to me saying, "You know, this is where we went the day I asked you to be my girlfriend." And next thing I know he's down on one knee and asks me to marry him. And of course, I said yes!
