We met working at Texas Institute for Surgery. Daniel had been working there for two years and I started right at the beginning of the summer of 2017. We had a mutual friend, (s/o to Katie Goodman), that had been whispering in both of our ears about each other. We met and would continue to hang out sporadically over the next 3 years.
Fast forward to a couple of years later, Daniel claims that I was "chasing after him" (which may or may not be true) he slid into my DMs on Instagram #Shocker. Technically, he made the first move, but I will admit that I kept the conversation going. He was finishing up his graduate program at SMU and would be back in town over the Holidays from an internship he was finishing up in Florida. We met at Desperado's for dinner to catch up....and ended up "catching up" for the next 6 hours. I knew I was smitten and learned that I didn't really know Daniel despite all of those years working and hanging out. We had similar views on all of the things you are typically not supposed to talk about on a first date. I always knew Daniel was a stand up guy, but after that first night, there was a spark of excitement! We continued to take things "one day at a time," (to this day Daniel still loves to remind me of this), and ended up falling head over heels for each other.
Daniel and I had talked about our intentions for our relationship and our future. I knew I wanted to marry him back in February/March. We went on a trip for my 30th birthday to Destin in August. Little did I know, I would get the gift I had been praying for. We went with our good friends, Matt and Jacque. On my 30th birthday, we had booked a boat cruise for later that afternoon. We got on the boat and the driver suggested that we take a little detour to a private island. We got out and found a spot to take "pictures". We took a lot of pictures as the sand was white and the water was a beautiful blue. Jacque had asked me to come look at a picture on her phone and angled ourselves away from Daniel. When I turned around, Daniel was down on one knee. It was the most beautiful moment and the greatest birthday gift! He said the sweetest words before asking me to marry him. It was the absolute easiest "yes" I ever said in my life! I was thanking Jesus in that moment for his faithfulness and goodness. We celebrated with our friends and family when we returned from the trip, and have been enjoying this season of engagement ever since.
