South Congress District
Shopping district with a great view of the Capitol Building, with lots of shops, restaurants, and market vendors. If you have a chance, stop in at the Continental Club - one of our favorite old Austin venues!
Bats at the Congress Avenue Bridge
Austin is home to the largest urban colony of bats in North America! Bats will usually migrate back here from warmer temperatures in March, but depending on weather, some may have already made their way back. If you're around the Congress Avenue Bridge around dusk, you may be able to spy some head out for the night!
Auditorium Shores
This is one of our favorite parks, and where we take our dogs almost every weekend! Just off the hike and bike trail around Town Lake, it has a great view of the water and the city skyline.
Barton Springs Pool
A huge, natural spring-fed pool at the center of Austin. At 68 degrees year round, you might think it's too cold to swim in February, but plenty of Austinites disagree! Take a dip if you're adventurous (or if the weather swings warm early this year).
Blanton Museum of Art
One of the largest university art museums and the largest public collection in central Texas. It is also home to Ellsworth Kelly's secular Austin Chapel. Fun fact - Anna worked on the recent ground renovation project completed here in 2023. Read about it at the link below!
Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum
The UMLAUF is a museum and outdoor sculpture garden centered on the artistic works of American sculptor Charles Umlauf. One of our favorite spaces in Austin!
Broken Spoke
The Broken Spoke is one of Austin's oldest honky tonks and a true Texas dance hall. Take a two-stepping lesson here or just come to enjoy the music!
Elephant Room
A true Austin staple - this is a basement jazz bar located on Congress Avenue. We came here the night we met (for the second time, allegedly - according to Brian).
la Barbecue
One of Austin's (and now Michelin's!) best loved Texas BBQ spots - come early to avoid waiting in line for too long!
Leroy and Lewis Barbecue
This is also now a Michelin-starred BBQ restaurant in Austin. We've loved it since they were a food truck, but we love it even more now that this brick-and-mortar is located in our neighborhood!
Kemuri Tatsu-Ya
Super hip Japanese-Texas BBQ fusion - we almost always bring out-of-town friends here.
KG BBQ
Unique Egyptian-Texas BBQ fusion food truck!
Cuantos Tacos
CDMX style tacos - one of our favorite taco spots in Austin. Get one of each taco on the menu. You won't regret it!
Suerte
Upscale traditional and regional Mexican restaurant. The suadero tacos are a must here.
Nixta Taqueria
Super cool taco shop with some of the most interesting and delicious tacos (and wines!) in Austin
Discada
Northern Mexico-style taco truck. Ordering here is easy - they only serve one kind of taco, but it is to die for. Get the elotes too and you can't miss!
