Nick and Anita met online. After "swiping right," the pair met for beer and pizza at Black Sheep. They bonded over music, their love of Minneapolis, and both being only children who crave solitude and crowds at the same time. They shared a first kiss in the extremely romantic setting of the Whittier Elementary parking garage. Nick and Anita continued to enjoy many dates of bike rides, concerts, and cheap beer. Their dog Lucky slowly acclimated to another male's presence in the house after Nick moved in with Anita and they built a home together. Their relationship grew even more rock-solid through the rhythms and bumps of domestic life together, and despite COVID-19 forcing them inside with each other for nearly every moment, they never stopped laughing together. In the Summer of 2020, Nick proposed to Anita on a canoe in the middle of Lake Nokomis. Though taking a single knee in the boat risked the entire operation, they remained afloat and Anita said yes. Anita saw the spectacle coming from a mile away, despite Nick's attempts to surprise her.
