We will prefer everyone to be vaccinated or test negative prior to both of our ceremonies and the reception. Please be considerate of the health of others and review the CDC website for procedures. We encourage you to stay home if you are feeling sick.
If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, please do so. We will be adhering as best as possible to CDC and venue guidelines about masks.
We ask that you RSVP "will attend" or "not attend" to four events: Continental Breakfast, Hindu Ceremony, Catholic Ceremony, and Cocktail Hour & Reception. We welcome you to attend all events, but it is not required.
Both ceremonies will be held at the Sheraton Mahwah, so no need to worry about traveling between. The Hindu ceremony will take place indoors in the morning and the Catholic ceremony will take place outdoors in the late afternoon. There will be a cocktail hour and reception to follow the Catholic ceremony. Please check our Schedule page for more info.
First of all, we are so excited to welcome newcomers to our Hindu traditions. The ceremony will consist of many small rituals that celebrate our union and tell a fun and meaningful story. Don’t worry about feeling lost, there will be a program explaining the rituals, as well as a master of ceremonies to guide us through them all. It will be very free flowing, with people moving in and out and being social with one another. Traditionally, Hindu weddings tend to last several hours. Our ceremony will be four hours long. Don’t worry, we’ll feed you. There will be a continental breakfast before and a vegetarian lunch to follow.
We are not having a traditional Catholic ceremony, however we will be married by a priest. The ceremony will be held outdoors and will last approximately thirty minutes.
You are welcome to wear Indian attire throughout the day, but it is not required. If you decide you would be more comfortable wearing something else or want to change for the Catholic ceremony, please dress in modest semi-formal attire. Outfit changes are a norm of Hindu ceremonies, so you will see many people changing between ceremonies throughout the day. It is up to you whether you would like to change.
Breakfast will be a typical hotel continental breakfast. The buffet lunch following the Hindu ceremony will be South Indian food that will be strictly vegetarian. The reception will be a buffet with a majority of Indian food with some American dishes. There will be both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options available.
There will be an open bar at cocktail hour and the reception only.
