6:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Lots of us will be staying locally on the night of the 29th. If you are able to make it for two nights, we'd love to see you at the Hunter's Hall pub (opposite Matara) the night before the wedding!
12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
While there’s absolutely no pressure to wear Indian clothes, it would be lovely if you’d like to. Think vibrant colours, flowy fabrics, and a bit of sparkle — whether it’s a kurta or saree or lehenga. Here are a couple of websites that offer Indian attire for purchase/rent in the UK: https://uk.kalkifashion.com/; https://www.andaazfashion.co.uk/https://byrotation.com- rent
The Mehndi is a cherished tradition in Indian weddings, where beautiful henna designs are applied to the hands and feet of the bride, her close family, and friends. Mehndi is more than just decoration — it’s a symbol of joy, love, beauty, and celebration. It’s also said that the darker the henna stain, the deeper the love between the couple! To make this even more special, we’ve invited a professional henna artist, who will be with us from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm today. Feel free to get your own designs done, whether intricate or simple — it’s a lovely way to be part of the celebration. A quick tip: After the henna is applied, it usually takes 20 to 30 minutes to dry. Try to avoid smudging it during this time. For the best colour, it’s ideal to leave the dried paste on your skin for a few hours before gently scraping it off (no water!). The stain will start off orange and deepen to a rich brown over the next 24–48 hours.
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Haldi Ceremony (from 12:30-1:30 pm) We’re so glad you could join us for this joyful pre-wedding ritual. The Haldi ceremony is a traditional Indian celebration held before the wedding day, where family and friends come together to bless the bride and groom with love, laughter, and a bit of turmeric! During this event, a special paste made of haldi (turmeric), sandalwood, and rosewater is applied to the couple’s face, hands, and feet. This isn’t just for glowing skin — in Indian culture, turmeric is seen as a symbol of purity, prosperity, and protection. You’ll notice dhol players, dancing, and lots of laughter — the Haldi ceremony is also a time for families to relax, tease the couple, and enjoy a moment of calm before the big day. Feel free to join in, smear a little haldi, dance to the beats, and help us cover the couple in love (and turmeric)!
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Afternoon Break (3:00–5:00 pm) After the Mehndi, we’ll have a two-hour break from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. You’re welcome to explore the gardens at the beautiful Matara Centre, wander around the grounds, or pop to the Hunters Hall Inn right opposite to the venue, or change into something elegant for the main wedding ceremony in the evening. Whatever you choose to wear or do — your presence and joy are all that truly matter. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
