Scene: It is a Thursday night in late March at The Park at 14th, a four-level restaurant in Washington, D.C. Anisha arrives to the restaurant around 7 pm, intending to enjoy a nice night out with her friend, Michesa. By 7 pm, Bruce has already been at the restaurant for about 2 hours visiting with his cousin, Lafayette. Aspects of the Night We Disagree On: There are two things we cannot agree on from the night we met: 1) what Bruce was wearing that night, and 2) the amount of time that passed between our initial interaction and when Bruce asked for Anisha's number. Bruce maintains that he was wearing a sweater and slacks when we met. Anisha is convinced that he had on a suit, despite the fact that Bruce was the one who dressed himself for the evening. Anisha believes that no more than 10 minutes passed between the first time their eyes met and the moment Bruce asked for her number. Despite Anisha's awesome memory, to this day, Bruce tells everyone that at least 25 to 30 minutes passed before Anisha's conversation with Michesa ended and he had the opportunity to approach her. Aspects of the Night We Agree On: We both agree that when we first laid eyes on each other, Anisha was traveling from the third to the fourth floor of the restaurant and that Bruce was traveling from the fourth to the third floor. We also agree that we exchanged pleasantries during that initial meeting, and that Anisha amusingly caught Bruce checking her out as she went up the stairs. Most importantly, we agree that the second time we bumped into each other—again on the staircase in between the third and fourth floors—there was a clear connection that we had to explore further. And explore we did. Within the next week, we had been on two dates—the first was to a Japanese restaurant for shrimp dumplings, and the second was to a record store. To this day, dumplings and records are often important parts of our date nights.
