In 2017, I was sitting in art class, when Malakai, one of my classmates at that time, casually pulled out his phone to show me a picture of his brother, Quentin. As soon as I saw the picture, I couldn’t help but laugh and jokingly tell Malakai, “Your brother is cute.” Malakai, being Malakai, raised an eyebrow. “I’ll tell him you said that,” he replied. Now, anyone who knew Malakai knew he wasn’t the type to take things too seriously—he probably would’ve shrugged it off and moved on. Later that day, I was scrolling through my notifications when a follow request from none other than Quentin popped up. After a brief exchange, we started talking more and more, becoming close friends. In December 2018, when we were finally ready to admit to ourselves what had been blooming for so long, that we took the leap into a relationship. Looking back, it was Malakai's quirky nature and that simple joke about Quentin that sparked everything. And for that, Q and I are forever grateful for you, Kai.
