Angie's Story

How I met John Drefahl

The first time I saw John in person was at Fuel Cafe. It was Matt Bonde’s bday. Then Matt and I were planning an RV trip to Furthur (a music festival) in a private Facebook group and Matt added John. I was irritated by this and didn't like the idea of sharing an RV with someone I didn't know. I remember giving John a hard time for a while. Then Johnnie Fisher brought him to Sara and Nick's house after a show. I was like who is this guy and why is he showing up everywhere? I didn't get it that we were being set up. That night I finally noticed John’s cute smile. I warmed up to him in our 'RV group' and we started talking and didn’t stop. Then came the first 'date'. My girlfriend Susana was in town and we were meeting at Burnhearts. I invited him to come. I could feel he was genuinely interested in me and my heart warmed up to him. We had a great night, Susana approved and we closed the bar. A few weeks later I was camping with Sajsquatch's Adventure Tours. I invited John. The night before we left John almost bailed. John was waiting outside for me when I showed up. I was pleasantly surprised. The trip was easy going. He was helpful and kind. We got closer by the day enjoying nature. I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights and read we might be able to see them one night at Pictured Rocks. I told everyone to meet on the beach. John and I made our way there and John asked, 'Do you want to go on a walk instead?' I agreed. We found our spot and thought we could very faintly see green Northern Lights. I started talking about my deep universal theories under one of the most beautiful night skies. When I put my hood down and looked over at John his face was so smitten and sweet. It was a perfect moment! I knew what this was and felt the same. Months later John told me under that night sky with the faintest of Northern Lights was when he started to fall in love with me. I told him that I knew then too. The moment was shared!
