Angelique’s Point of View: It was the fall semester of my sophomore year of high school, I was 16, and not looking for a boyfriend. My best friend told me that we needed to go shopping for homecoming dresses at Pat’s of Chauvin. I remembered going there as a child to get dresses for Christmas and other special occasions, so I decided to give it a try. It took the famous Mrs. Pat to look me over once to pick the perfect dress for me. If only we knew who we would be to each other six years later. As my friend and I were checking out, a young man walked into the store. He was wearing a t-shirt and pajama pants and eating a hamburger. My friend knew him, and she hugged him then said, “ Angelique this is Jonathan.” We then exchanged the most awkward handshake-hug and made small talk; then I was on my way. After this encounter, Jonathan texted several of my friends telling them how beautiful I was and how he needed to know me. To this day, he says he knew I was the one. In the next weeks, he worked hard to win me over. Jonathan asked me to his homecoming then I asked him to mine. My homecoming was first, and I made it clear that we were only friends. Several weeks passed, and we stayed in touch. One day I told him I wasn’t feeling well, so he brought my comfort foods and a DVD player, and we watched Stardust and the Princess Bride. He did things like this regularly. He would pick me up from school to hang out and ride around the city. Finally, October 6 rolled around, and it was time for his homecoming. We were having so much fun, and he wasn’t ready for it to end. So on October 11, he took me for a ride in his moms convertible and asked her to be his girlfriend. Fast forward to 2017, Angelique turns 21 on July 7, and he proposed in Las Vagas on July 11.
