Ice Cream Dates to Wedding Cakes - A Love That Grew With Us

We met in high school in 2012 — just two teenagers walking the same hallways, completely unaware that we were meeting the person we would one day marry. Angeline noticed Phil right away. He was funny, outgoing, and had a way of making everyone around him laugh. For her, it was love at first sight. Phil remembers it a little differently. He noticed how generous and genuinely kind Angeline was — the kind of person who showed up for others without hesitation. For him, it wasn’t instant. It was a slow burn. A friendship that quietly deepened into something more, until one day he realized he couldn’t imagine life without her. Even though we didn’t officially start dating until September 15th, 2013, the feelings were definitely growing in between. Our dates in highschool looked a little different — ice cream runs, pizza nights, movies, and fun days out that our parents kindly drove or chaperoned us to. Looking back, those simple moments were some of our sweetest. Our first real date (the time where we no longer needed a ride to) was at PF Chang’s to celebrate our one-year dating anniversary. It felt grown up and special, like we were stepping into a new chapter together. We’ve moved from living in each other’s childhood homes, to finding a place of our own, to still figuring it all out as we go. We’ve taken countless trips to Grandpa’s cabin in Presque Isle, Wisconsin — a place filled with many wonderful memories — and now we’re getting married at Angeline’s parents’ home on the lake just down the road. We’ve traveled to concerts in different states, wandered through botanic gardens and forest preserves (our favorite kind of days), and made memories we’ll tell for the rest of our lives. And then there was the Boundary Waters in Ely, Minnesota — a place Angeline visited as a little girl. The trip had actually been planned over a year in advance by Angeline, her dad, and Phil. But what Angeline didn’t know was that Phil had been quietly planning something else all on his own. When the moment felt right, in the middle of the stillness and beauty of the Boundary Waters, Phil asked Angeline to marry him. The proposal was a complete surprise — one she had secretly hoped for. Phil’s heart was racing. Angeline was overflowing with excitement. And yes — we both cried. As if the moment needed any extra magic, two swans appeared right after he proposed, gliding out onto the water almost on cue. It wasn’t planned — but it felt like it was. We balance each other in the best ways. Angeline leads with heart and warmth. Phil brings steadiness and humor. Where one overthinks, the other reassures. Where one dreams big, the other builds the steps to get there. We’ve learned patience, grace, and how to truly listen. We’ve learned that love isn’t just a feeling — it’s a choice you make every day. What we love most about each other is simple: the safety, the laughter, and the unwavering support. Phil loves Angeline’s kindness and the way she makes every place feel like home. Angeline loves Phil’s loyalty and the way he can turn any ordinary moment into something joyful. We choose each other because we have grown up together. Because we’ve seen every version of one another — from teenagers in high school to the people we are today — and we still choose us. We’re excited to keep building a life filled with adventure, lakeside sunsets, music, family traditions, and a home that feels warm and welcoming to everyone who walks through the door. We’re still figuring it out — but we’re doing it side by side. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. With Love - Angeline & Philip <3
