Question

How early should I get there?

Answer

We recommend for those travelling through Cartagena to get there latest Thursday as we will be arranging transportation from Cartagena to Barranquilla on the Friday (March 14th). For those going only to Barranquilla we recommend arriving between Thursday and Friday (March 13-14th) so you are able to rest the night prior to the wedding (March 15th) which will probably go till late. We will be in Cartagena days prior to the Wedding from Tuesday-Friday (March 10-14th) and will have some outings and activities planned for those who will join us. Everyone is welcomed but we understand if you are not able to as well! If you are planning to extend your trip and explore Colombia, we've included some recommendations and places to visit in the 'Things to Do' page. Reach out if you have any other questions and will be happy to help!

Question

What is the weather like in Barranquilla?

Answer

Barranquilla has a tropical climate, with warm temperatures year-round. Expect temperatures to be around 25-30°C (77-86°F). It’s a good idea to bring summer like clothing, such as linen, shorts, dresses, etc. For wedding day, both ceremony and reception will be indoors with AC.

Question

What are the easiest ways to get to Barranquilla?

Answer

The easiest way to get to Barranquilla is by flying into Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ). There are direct flights from several major cities (usually Bogota). For those travelling through Cartagena, you can arrive to the Aeropuerto Internacional Rafael Nunez (CTG). Popular carriers are Copa Airlines, Air Canada, Jetblue, American Airlines and Avianca. To reach Barranquilla, it is a quick 1.5 hour drive. Bride and groom will support on arranging options for transportation (very affordable). From the airport, you can take an taxi or order an Uber. For taxis, please use the kiosk located at the airport to ensure they are airport designated taxis.

Question

Is Barranquilla/ Cartagena safe for tourists?

Answer

It is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular areas and during the day (i.e. the walled city). However, like any major city, be aware of your surrounding and belongings. Please leave all valuables, including passports, large sums of cash, sentimental jewelry pieces at home or in a hotel safe if you will be touring the city streets or going to the beach. Use reputable transportation options (taxis ordered by the hotel or Uber via app). For emergency assistance, dial 123.

Question

Do I need to carry cash?

Answer

While credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger stores, you will need cash to take a taxi from the airport and to purchase items from street vendors or small shops. City taxis do not take cards. ATMs are available throughout the city or you can exchange USD at a bank office (Bancolombia, Davivienda, BBVA).

Question

Can I eat the street food and drink the water?

Answer

You could eat from street vendors but be aware of how vendors prepare the food or if any ingredients have been sitting out in the sun. Also, it is best to stick to bottled water versus tap water. When you go out to eat at a restaurant you may be asked if you will like water "con gas" (sparkling) or "sin gas" (still).

Question

Is there transportation to and from the hotel for the wedding?

Answer

We highly encourage guests to stay in Hotel El Prado, as they have very affordable rooms (approximately $50-40 CAD per person/night) and it is very close from both ceremony and reception locations. If staying at Hotel el Prado, you can walk to the Ceremony (Church) as it is right across the street. We will provide transportation from Ceremony/ Church to reception for all guests (5 minute drive). As the reception is in a Country Club, security will be able to order a cab on your behalf or if you prefer, you could also order an Uber to go back to the hotel.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

We kindly ask all guests to RSVP by November 1st. Very excited to welcome you all!

Question

Is there a registry?

Answer

For those travelling, we understand coming all the way to Colombia is a big commitment. Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for. Should you wish to grace us with a gift, a contribution to our Newlywed or our Honeymoon fund as cash during our wedding day will be appreciated!

Question

Are taxis safe? Do I need to rent a car?

Answer

Taxis are generally safe to hail from major landmarks and most have set fares for popular destinations. At the airport, head to the yellow taxi line to take a cab. As with all taxis, please confirm the fare before accepting a ride. Uber also works in both Cartagena and Barranquilla so no need to rent a car! Cartagena The ride from the airport to the walled city should be about 10-15 minutes. Taxis are relatively cheap and parking inside the walled city is very limited. Additionally most activities are within walking distance or quick uber/ cab rides in the walled city. Barranquilla The ride from the airport to Hotel El Prado is about 30-40 minutes.
