How We Met

Kurt and Angelica’s story begins on Halloween weekend, 2021, at the University of Miami. They first met at a party—an outdoor event filled with live music, dancing, and just the right amount of Halloween chaos. The next night, by complete surprise, they ran into each other again at a different Halloween party. Neither of them knew the other would be there, but fate clearly had other plans. That night, they exchanged numbers, and Angelica invited Kurt over to do the most romantic thing she could think of: play Wii Mario Kart. From there, things took off. Their first official date was at a shrimp boil restaurant—gloves, bibs, and all. It wasn’t exactly elegant, but it was delicious, hilarious, and perfectly them.

The Engagement

July 20, 2025

During a weekend trip to Connecticut, Angelica and Kurt took a day trip to New York City—a place filled with shared memories, especially since Kurt had once lived there. They spent the afternoon strolling through Central Park, eating sandwiches, and soaking in the sunshine. That evening, they dressed up and headed to a cozy Italian restaurant before making their way to Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Music has always been at the heart of their relationship—they met in music school and have loved visiting jazz clubs together in every city they travel to. That night, they were seated front and center, sipping martinis and old fashioneds, completely swept away by the incredible performances of Terrell Stafford and Charles McPherson. It felt like the perfect night… and it turns out, it was. Throughout the show, Kurt was doing his best to stay cool—especially as Angelica kept reaching for his hand and coming dangerously close to discovering the ring box hidden in his pocket. She had no idea what was coming. After the show, they started walking through Lincoln Center on their way to a wine bar. Kurt began reflecting on how perfect the day had been. A couple minutes later, right in front of the Metropolitan Opera House (a place especially meaningful to Angelica, who studied opera), Kurt stopped, took her hands, and got down on one knee. A hidden photographer captured the moment, and afterward, they wandered the plaza, taking photos and basking in the magic of it all. They wrapped up the night with a quiet celebration at a wine bar, hearts full. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
