We both met at Ramapo College of New Jersey. I had attended because all my siblings have gone there so - it was a given. Jacob attended because his friend Rosie convinced him to go with her and he was excited about their music studio on campus. Rosie was my assigned freshmen year roommate. Jake had taken noticed of his friends’ roommate and we had shared a word or two in passing. One evening, Rosie left the dorm and I noticed that everyone was out in the quad socializing. Feeling half brave & half scared to death, I decided it was a good enough idea to at least sit outside in the hopes of finding friends. I sat on one of the many larger boulders on campus, drawing to ease my nerves. A voice directed towards me broke through the large chatter. “What are you drawing?” Me had forgotten my glasses, simply said “a hand” without looking up. Spoiler: it was Jake trying to talk to me haha I was drawing a hand along with lyrics to a band we would later share our first dance with. I find that wild. A few days passed and my new friend Brian had an idea to start making s’mores in the quad. Seemed like fool proof way to make friends, offer free chocolate. Jacob ended up attending & we hit it off! I learned about our shared love for photography and we talked all night. After two years of growing closer as friends, we finally started dating. Jake asked me to be his girlfriend at a show he was playing, classic boy in band move haha Jacob proposed to me in Zion national park in Utah. We had booked a spontaneous trip with friends that I organized maybe a month out haha we were doing a strenuous hike & finally reached the top. Our friend Donald was the only friend that made it up with us. He happens to be a photographer too - go figure! I was overwhelmed at the sight of these enormous mountains & started crying before he even started to speak. Using the emotional start, he began to propose. Although he got the ring perfect - I love that the whole time we were locked in each others eyes trying to engrave the moment in our heads. Over the years, we’ve had so many adventures together. We graduated college together. We built our businesses as together. We’ve gone to rainforests in Puerto Rico. Sailed on the waters of Italy. Hiked countless mountains and consumed quite a few PB&Js on those roadtrips. We’ve gone up the north east to Montreal and down the coast to the Smokey mountains. We love being spontaneous or at least Jake gladly entertains my rom com moments of dancing wherever we can & acting like we are in a 1950s film.
