Question

The Angus Barn History:

Answer

The Angus Barn is an iconic steakhouse and longtime Raleigh institution that first opened its doors on June 28, 1960. It was founded by Thad Eure, Jr. and Charles Winston on a rural parcel of pastureland between Raleigh and Durham, a location that many at the time thought was unlikely for a successful restaurant. Their vision was simple: serve high-quality steak and hospitality in a warm, rustic setting. Originally a 275-seat steak-and-potatoes restaurant, the Angus Barn quickly became popular with both locals and travelers. A devastating fire in 1964 destroyed the original building, but it was rebuilt larger and reopened in early 1965, setting the stage for decades of growth and expansion. Over the years, the restaurant’s menu expanded beyond steak to include seafood, poultry, and pasta, and it earned a reputation for an exceptional wine list and hospitable service. Today it seats hundreds of guests, has welcomed millions over more than six decades, and remains family-owned and operated, currently under the leadership of Van Eure, daughter of one of the founders.
