When Chris was leaving Lanai, HI, USA at the end of July 2022, Angel had just arrived and they missed each other by a few days. A couple years later in August 2024, Chris moved back to Lanai and made the WORST first impression for Angel. It's the classic tale of girl thinks boy is annoying and then boy eventually makes girl fall in love with him.... Upon arriving back to Lanai, Chris was offered a room in the hotel that we both worked at until his own permanent housing became available. The first two weeks were torture for Angel as Chris was constantly calling the front desk upset about bugs in his room. Unluckily for her, she happened to be the one that answered the phone every time Chris called. When they finally met in person, it was Chris's first shift working with Angel. Chris decided to ask Angel if he could leave work slightly early as he wanted to join friends at the local restaurant, describing it as a 'hot date'. In reality, he was just meeting a couple friends, but this just made Angel even more resistant towards him. A few days shortly after, there was an event on the local Manele Bay beach that many mutual friends were enjoying. At this point, Angel has no idea Chris actually quite likes her and all it took was some BBQ chicken and a couple glasses of wine to give Chris the courage to approach Angel. Angel did not want to admit it, but quickly she saw a different side to him. After multiple attempts to get her phone number, Angel stood strong and said 'NO' to Chris. In less than a week, on one of Chris's days off, he joined Angel and her visiting Aunt Carla on the beach. At the height of the Hawaiian heat, Angel invited Chris to take cover under her yellow and orange umbrella. This day was when everything changed. Hours of laughter ensued and in the coming weeks, they started to spend a lot more time in each other's company. A couple weeks later, Chris invited Angel out on their first date by taking a short flight to Honolulu. Angel loves shopping and so Chris thought let's make shopping romantic and took Angel to the Nordstrom Bar in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. He seemed very nervous, but she didn’t think much of it. They sat at the bar, and he ordered two glasses of champagne. As the drinks arrived, she could see him getting redder. She asked him what was wrong. He said that he wanted her to be his girlfriend, and she told him 'NO'. Much to his shock, he asked why not? She told him with a cute grin, that he needed to use her name and say, 'Angel will you be my girlfriend'. He then proceeded to make a big scene and turned almost purple with embarrassment at the fear of repeating himself. Eventually he succumbed to her request and she said 'YES'. With Chris and Angels' joint passion for travel; trips to Boston, Atlanta, England, Spain, Mexico soon ensued, along with a full-time relocation to San Francisco for Angel's promotion. But it was 529 days after that extremely hot day on the beach in Lanai that Chris decided to ask THE question. He took Angel to a dream destination of Japan and decided to get down on one knee in the beautiful Bamboo Forest in Kyoto. As you may have guessed by now, once again, she said 'YES!'
