How They Met

Sometime Winter Quarter 2010

They met at Lodge Bar. He asked her to dance and she, not knowing what she was getting herself into, cheerily agreed. As they got on the dance floor, Nicholas Clare -- instead of dancing like a normal person -- proceeded to pick up Angela Smith from behind and swing her around like a ragdoll. Caught off guard, she laughed for the entirety of an early 2010's pop song as he never once let her go nor lose rhythm. Once the song was over, she turned around and thanked him for the interesting dance*, and walked away... They didn't talk again for a long, long time (lol). Picking himself up from the situation, he sometime later asked her to a "grab-a-date" party at the ever infamous Box. From there, it was love- though not without the up's & down's of being in your early 20s. Somehow, however, throughout the chaos of college (mono, fires, etc), they always found themselves coming back to each other. * Nearly 10 years later, they still dance like this. Well, occasionally... they aren't as fit as they used to be.

The Proposal

March 2019

After flying to Daegu, South Korea, to ask her father for his daughter's hand in marriage, Nic waited months to pop the question. The more time that passed, the less Angie suspected a proposal. So when he asked her that morning to get dressed up for a fancy dinner, she really thought she was going to a fancy dinner. He told her they were getting dinner at The Dunlavy, a restaurant which, at that point in time, did not serve dinner. She called him out on this fact after trying to find the non-existent dinner menu online, & he had to admit that they didn't. Actually, he said, he had a surprise for her! Hungry and intrigued, she played along. He ordered the uber & they ended up at The Dunlavy- what?? The restaurant that didn't serve dinner?? Her mind was so far off of a proposal that she literally thought the surprise was Nic pulling strings & getting dinner served at The Dunlavy. Instead, he pulled her towards the Wortham Fountain and told her to close her eyes. With that, she realized what was happening and the rest, as most brides will tell you, was a blur. She doesn't remember much about the moment besides excitement but, luckily for her, he planned for this. He hired a photographer to hide in the background & capture every moment. After this, he had arranged for some of their close Houston friends to meet them at one of their favorite bars (shoutout Nett Bar *choochoo*). She still thought they were going to dinner butttt... there was no dinner. Their first night as an engaged couple was spent with great people, too much prosecco, and frozen pizza for dinner. And it was perfect for them.
