How we met

Summer 2008

Our moms were in the same small group back in 2008. They were having a pool party at someone's house and everyone brought their kids. We were too old to enjoy going down the waterslide repeatedly but too young to go buy candy bars from Kroger with the high schoolers. Kyle was reading a book in the corner so I felt bad and went over to talk to him. Little did I know he didn't want to talk, but luckily I was persistent enough that he eventually asked for my myspace and so our friendship began. Through middle, high school, and college we chatted regularly about our lives, our love interests, school, jobs, and more. And by more I mean usually Kyle was making fun of me. After college I was a bridesmaid in my friend Catherine's wedding and was still living in Florida. Her wedding was in Tennessee so I thought it might be strange to ask a friend from Florida to make the 12 hour drive with me. I instead asked Kyle because he was only 4 hours away in Atlanta and it was definitely "platonic." He ended up having a wedding the following day in South Carolina so we made a road trip out of it. I developed feelings and as we were driving back on 285, I asked him what we were and he responded "well what do you want us to be?" Our first date was after I moved to Atlanta a few months later on August 21, 2017.

The engagment

May the 4th be with you

In my younger days when I didn't quite understand the consequences of breaking and entering, I would let myself into a lot of buildings around Atlanta in hopes of finding a roof with a good view of the city for sunset. Angela would always beg me to bring her along for these escapades. Knowing that I would eventually be caught, I insisted I wouldn't be the reason she went to jail. Fast forward to last November and mentally preparing myself for the engagement. I run a lot of scenarios through my head trying too incorporate locations that are important to us and then I hear this little voice in my head say this "Take me on a rooftop" Over the course of the next few weeks the voice gets louder and louder until I can no longer ignore. So thus began the search for a rooftop I could use as my proposal location. After several meetings with hotels and businesses and and building owners trying to find someone who could help me achieve my goal, I took a walk in frustration around the city hoping that an idea would come to me. In that moment I noticed that the clouds in the sky were shaped like horse and that's when it hit me. What's the highest roof I could get her on? The sky! From there the rest was easy. I found a company who chartered a flight to all the important locations in our relationship, first date, first kiss, first place we held hands. We hovered over each of them and on the last location is when I surprised her with the ring.
