How We Met

8.17.2016

We met at Gardner-Webb (our Alma Mater) because Kendall was assigned to the freshman group Angela was assigned as a peer leader to. She still has the picture of his name on her list before they met each other! Little did they know that the campus tours and study "dates" would turn into so much more. He was even willing to participate and genuinely help with GWU's traditional Freshman Lip Sync because it allowed him more time to spend with her. *collective awww* Angela genuinely didn't catch on until he brought her a box of rice crispy treats one day and won her heart! Since then, they have supported each other through thick and thin. Angela graduated first in the fall of 2018. She was glad to accept a teaching position in Gaston County and the couple felt thankful that they could still live within 40 minutes of each other. They visited each other often over the course of the next 2 years as Kendall finished school.

How He Proposed

8.5.2019

This was his ‘Plan Z.’ He had thought of, and tried to execute many different plans before this one. His plans ranged from my dream proposal, to a Christmas in July. Angela eventually told him just to go for it, as long as he kept both families involved it was sure to be perfect. So he did. On her 22nd birthday, he made reservations at a new sushi resturant in town, called on their families and best friends to join, and had them all meet at Angela’s house. He waited all night to officially pop the question after dinner when everyone had again gathered in Angela’s house. He handed her a (birthday) card to read, and instead of kneeling then and there, he dragged it out a little bit more by handing her a ring in a box that was meant for Jaylen (best man). Once she handed the ring over, thats when he presented hers, asked if she would be his forever, and there was hardly a pause before she was jumping into his arms.

Our Wedding Plans

We have talked for a long time about getting married at Pisgah UMC. It was the church Kendall grew up in, where his parents were married, and now Angela’s church home since she moved out of the Charlotte area. It’s just very special to both of us. Unfortunately, we had to pivot and adjust our plans mid-February. Although the church is deeply important to us, we have decided to switch venues to Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in order to safely accommodate as many of our family and friends as possible. When asked what part(s) of the planning process he truely cared about, Kendall said: "whatever it takes for us to get the Pokéflute and get past the Snorlax." Which translates to: whatever it takes for us to be married and live the rest of our lives together. #romantic

Our Honeymoon and Covid

Our Plan A was to travel to Japan. We were so excited and Angela had even started to learn a little bit of Japanese in preparation. When COVID hit we heard the Tokyo Olympics would be postponed to 2021, but we figured we would be able to work around it. As the time for planning and booking got closer, we started talking about a potential Plan B, with the hope that Japan would still be a viable option. Unfortunately, about 7 months before our wedding, we decided it would be safer and wiser to switch to Plan B - a long road trip up the Northeast coast of the United States. Come mid-February and our change of venue, we decided that our Plan C (which had previously been discussed but never very seriously) would be the easiest option since the decision fatigue was setting in with making revisions to the wedding plans that we thought were already finalized. Plan C - our finally BOOKED adventure - will be Walt Disney World!
